HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 18-year-old chimpanzee at the Honolulu Zoo passed away early Friday morning.
Kealoha, also known as Kea, was favorite of zoo visitors for nearly two decades.
Zookeepers were alerted of Kea's potential health issues after he became lethargic.
Kea was then admitted to the zoo's veterinary clinic for a complete examination when he did not respond to medication.
Kea is survived by his parents, Roscoe and Kumi, along with an older brother, Kibale.
The zoo's chimpanzee community consists of five males and three females.
The cause of Kea's death will be determined once lab results are complete.
