HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - One of the most important considerations when looking for a new home is lifestyle. On today's Real Estate of Mind, Realtor Steph Chan of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties talks about marina-front homes.. a great idea if your family is into water sports. Check out the video and Steph's outline below.
Marina front homes deliver a different lifestyle than beachfront and oceanfront homes.
Homes on a marina are often ideal for a water sport lifestyle like kayaking or canoe paddling. Additionally, they can allow for leisurely cruising around the neighborhood in a boat. You will need to make sure you understand association restrictions for any marina front property you might consider. The association will also have information on the possibility of building a dock or mooring a boat.
There are particular inspections you should have before you buy a marina front property.
For marina front a standard survey and staking will provide the necessary information. The survey process will identify sea walls and retaining walls in which case it might be a good idea to hire an engineer to evaluate structural integrity.
Other considerations...
When considering marina front property you have to consider the home may be subject to conditions because of ocean/salt water exposure. Many of the newer building materials are doing a great job holding up against corrosion. A marina front home will be less likely to sustain deterioration than an oceanfront home due to the lack of wave action and not being in proximity to beaches.
Here's a good example of a marina-front property: 679 Kaumakini St
