NIANTIC, CT (WFSB) -

A Niantic man has spared a 17-pound lobster from the boiling pot.

Don MacKenzie purchased the live lobster from a Waterford restaurant then released it into the Long Island Sound on Tuesday.

MacKenzie told The Day of New London he believes the lobster, nicknamed "Lucky Larry," may be around 80 years old and deserves to live.

MacKenzie released the lobster in a secret location where he said it would be almost impossible for fishermen to drag their nets.
