6.5 magnitude quake hits Solomon Islands, no tsunami threat for Hawaii

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is monitoring the ocean after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Solomon Islands.

A tsunami warning has not been issued for Hawaii.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck at about 1:20 a.m. (HST) Wednesday.

The Solomon Islands are located southwest of Hawaii, and off the northeast coast of Australia.
