Mufi Hanneman lands Maui News endorsement

WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Former Honolulu mayor Mufi Hanneman's bid for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District seat received a boost on Friday, as The Maui News, the largest newspaper in Hawaii's Maui County, endorsed the Democratic candidate.

The Maui News says that they would "urge a vote for Mufi Hannemann for the U.S. House of Representatives" and that "he is the right candidate, at the right time, for the 2nd Congressional seat."

The newspaper cited Hanneman's experience in Washington D.C. as one of the reasons for the endorsement.

Mufi Hannemann stated, "I am honored by the endorsement of The Maui News, as it validates our message that Hawaii needs an experienced leader who can bring people together and get the job done based on a proven track record of results, not a record number of promises made in the course of a campaign. Hawaii deserves a collaborative leader who will be able to hit the ground running to build a brighter future for our keiki, kûpuna, and middle class families."

When we asked Governor David Ige if he could beat Colleen Hanabusa in a potential match-up in 2018, he didn't hesitate with this response. "Certainly. I believe that I will be successful for any of those candidates that are considering it," he said.
