A U.S. Marshals task force
arrested 72 fugitives and cleared 109 outstanding warrants during a four-day
sweep on Oahu.
The
operation which began on July 16 focused on arresting fugitives wanted for the
following crimes: robbery, possession of narcotics, sexual assault, parole and
felony probation violation.
On
Tuesday, July 17, officials located and arrested one of Utah County's most
wanted fugitive. 33 year-old Lydell Cristobal was taken into custody at a
residence in Lahaina Street in Waianae. Cristobal was wanted by the State of
Utah for multiple counts of theft by receiving stolen property and unlawful
acquisition/possession of transfer card. Cristobal is currently being held at
Oahu Community Correctional Center pending extradition to Utah.
On
Wednesday, July 18, officials arrested 41 year-old Salt Lake resident Robert
Ferrer. Ferrer who was wanted on 3 State warrants eluded authorities by hiding
in an attic. Upon learning of his whereabouts, law enforcement officers on
scene at the Likini Street residence tried to convince Ferrer to surrender.
Ferrer was uncooperative. The Department of Public Safety Sheriffs Division K-9
Unit was eventually called to the scene. Ferrer surrendered after recognizing
the presence of the K-9. Ferrer is currently being held at OCCC pending further
court proceedings.
The
agencies involved in the collaborative initiative include the Honolulu Police
Department, Department of Public Safety Sheriffs Division, Hawaii County Police
Department, U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Department of Homeland Security- HSI,
Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Secret Service, Western States
Information Network, Federal Protective Services, and the U.S. Attorney's
Office.
