Thousands of dollars in equipment stolen from canoe club

An Oahu Canoe Club says that thousands of dollars in equipment was stolen overnight from a canoe at Pokai Bay.

Coaches with Keiki O Ka Mo'i showed up for practice Wednesday morning and found that the ‘iakos and ama (tied to the side of the canoe for balance) was gone from one of their canoes.

The club says it could cost up to $5,000 to replace the green and white Bixler Mana Ama and brown 'Iakos. Ka Mo'i will only have two racing canoes until they can find or replace the equipment.

The Waianae-based canoe club is part of Family Programs Hawaii, which focuses on supporting Hawaii's children.
