Man injured after bull escapes Waimanalo ranch

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 50-year-old man was taken to a trauma center in serious condition after he was attacked by a bull that escaped from a Waimanalo ranch Tuesday evening.

Bud Gibson, the owner of Town and Country Stables in Waimanalo, tells Hawaii News Now that the incident started when a pig hunter with six hunting dogs came up behind the ranch where he raises bucking bulls for professional rodeo circuits. The dogs got into the bull's pen and became aggressive, sending the bull into a panic and causing him to crash out of the enclosure.

"When the dogs got the bull separated and got on him, he went into survival mode," said Gibson.

According to Gibson, the bull then ran into neighbor Robbie Rodriguez's yard, where the man was in a garage working on one of his cars when he was attacked by the rampaging animal.

"The dogs were right on him, he ran right into [Rodriquez's] yard, and of course, Robbie was in the wrong place at the wrong time, not his fault," said Gibson.

The bull was later recaptured and put down following the incident.
