City adjusts bus service to assist disabled riders

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Disabled people who catch the bus at Triangle park on Kahala Avenue will still be able to board at that stop when the number 14 bus changes its route on August 19.

"We actually are rerouting the 22 bus. It will pass along Kahala Avenue servicing all the stops that the 14 used to service," DTS director Wayne Yoshioka said.

Participants at the Arc in Hawaii feared they would be forced to travel a quarter mile uphill on wheelchairs and walkers to another bus stop to go on outings and excursions.

"That is great news. Absolutely great news.  Our concern is will we have space on the busses? We asked that question and they said that they would address that," Arc director Lei Fountain said.

Yoshioka said the Arc's concern was fueled by misinformation.

"They thought the route was being totally eliminated," he said.
