MAKAHA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman is in critical condition after crashing her vehicle in Makaha Monday night.

According to police, the incident happened at 10 p.m. on Farrington Highway near Makua Beach Park.

Officials say the 21-year-old Waianae woman was traveling westbound when she lost control of the vehicle, veered off to the grassy shoulder of the roadway, and flipped over.

The woman was transported to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

According to police, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, however, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role.

Police shut down Farrington Highway in both directions near the park at about 10:40 p.m. The highway was reopened just after 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation.
