Crash in Nanakuli leaves man in critical condition

NANAKULI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police are trying to identify a man critically injured in a crash in Nanakuli.

Around 10:00 p.m. Saturday night, the pedestrian, believed to be in his 30s was crossing Farrington Highway near the McDonald's, when he was hit by a pick up truck.

According to authorities, he was not in a marked crosswalk.  The woman driving the truck told police she tried to avoid the man, but couldn't prevent the collision.

"She was traveling in the lane closest to the center, she saw the male coming across, she changed to the right lane trying to avoid him, but the male kept coming across, and then she impacted him", said Lieutenant Robert Towne of the Honolulu Police Department.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not believed to be factors for the woman.  Police are unsure if the pedestrian was impaired.
