Hawaiian Airlines announces new route to Auckland, New Zealand

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Airlines announced Sunday that it is opening a new route to Auckland, New Zealand.  The new non-stop service will start March 13, 2013 and operate three days a week. 

Hawaiian will be the only U.S. carrier flying into Auckland.

The new service is expected to add more than 40,000 seats annually between New Zealand and Hawaii.

Flight schedules and the start of ticket sales have not yet been announced.

"We'll help work with New Zealand tourism to promote the services and as demand builds, and as people begin to understand that we are in the marketplace, with value and our brand and our product, we'll be raising our frequencies up to daily.  We look forward to doing that in Auckland as well", said Hawaiian Airlines President Mark Dunkerley.

Auckland is the 8th new destination for the airline since 2010.
