Barack
Obama and Mitt Romney were recently very close to each other in voter opinion
polls. And
both men have recently been pushing voter turnout in speeches to their
supporters.
In
fact, the language they use is almost identical - that it's an important election,
and shouldn't be decided by default.
It's
as if political advisors in both camps think this election could go down to the
wire. Well, good.
If
it is indeed an important election, then as many of us as possible should be in
on it. Low
voter turnout has been a problem for Hawaii, and for all of America, for years.
Not
just a problem, an embarrassment.
If
we do care about the issues in the news, we should take part in those decisions
that affect those issues. So whatever choices we wind up making, wouldn't you
rather have your vote matter than not matter at all?
