AAA: Hawaii gas prices continue to drop

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

For the sixth straight week, gas prices have dropped throughout Hawaii, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The Hawaii state average price dropped to $4.21, which is 3 cents lower than last week, 25 cents lower than last month and 18 cents more than a year ago.

Honolulu's average price dropped to $4.14 a gallon for regular unleaded – 1 cent less than last week, 17 cents less than last month and 21 cents more than a year ago at this time.

In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.21 a gallon, which is also a penny less than last week, 38 cents less than last month and 22 cents higher than this time last year.

Wailuku's average is $4.31 a gallon, 23 cents less than last week, 55 cents less than last month and 5 cents lower than last year.

"While prices have posted net drops for the week, Honolulu and Hilo gas prices have been moving up and down on various days during the past week, indicating a plateau rather than a straight decline," said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "Drivers should aggressively shop for the best prices along their routes, and take advantage of the 10-cent-per-gallon discount for cash gas purchases now available to AAA members at the Aloha Island Marts on Maui, Oahu and the Big Island."
