(Hawaii Athletics) - For the fifth
straight year, the University of Hawai`i men's basketball team will participate
in ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. UH's Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic
match-up against Houston Baptist on Nov. 12 will be broadcast live on
ESPN at 11:00 p.m. HT.
ESPN's fifth annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon—consecutive live college
basketball games to celebrate the start of the season—will be highlighted by 11
live games in 24 hours on ESPN beginning Tuesday, Nov. 13. The Marathon will
conclude with a doubleheader as Michigan State takes on Kansas and Duke faces
defending champion Kentucky in the Champions Classic at the Georgia Dome in
Atlanta.
UH's game, as in year's past, will be the third game in the marathon. The event
begins at midnight ET on Nov. 13 with West Virginia at Gonzaga, followed by
Davidson at New Mexico (2 a.m. ET) and Houston Baptist at Hawai`i (4 a.m. ET).
"This event has become an exciting tradition in such a short time here at UH,"
head coach Gib Arnold said. "We really
love the atmosphere of the late-night tip-off. Our fans really get us going and
the student section is awesome. We look forward to another great game this
year."
The Rainbow Warriors have had the same late-night affair the last four years
and have gone 3-1 in those contests, including an 86-67 season-opening win over
Cal State Northridge last year. UH's match-up with Houston Baptist will be the
final game of the season-opening Outrigger Hotels Classic. Maryland-Eastern
Shore and Arkansas-Pine Bluff are the other teams in the round-robin
tournament, which enters its 48th year.
