NAWILIWILI, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A second live mongoose has been captured on Kauai, an island once thought to be mongoose free.

It was found June 29 at the Young Brothers pier in Nawiliwili. The juvenile was euthanized and sent to a lab in Hilo for DNA testing.

Kauai's first live mongoose was captured back in May by an expert from the Kauai invasive species committee, which says reported sightings to its tipline have increased to about one a day.
