HONOLULU – (Hawaii Athletics) University of Hawai‘i
and University of
Arizona have announced a
home-and-home football series for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
The teams will play Aug. 31, 2019 in Honolulu
and Sept. 5, 2020 in Tucson,
"We continue to try and schedule Pac-12 opponents on a home
and home basis," UH Athletics Director Jim Donovan said, "and we're proud to
as our most recent addition. They have a great program and we have mutual
history because Dick Tomey was the head coach for both schools for so many
years. We don't often play in Tucson
so it will be nice treat for our fans in that area of the country."
The teams have met four times with the Wildcats winning each
one, most recently in 1998 when Tomey led 24th-ranked Arizona to a 27-6
victory at Aloha Stadium.
The series began in 1951 in Honolulu
(UA, 32-21) and continued the following year in Tucson (UA, 57-7). The teams didn't play
again until 1977 (UA, 17-10) at Aloha Stadium, Tomey's first season as UH head
