Laumaka escapee arrested after assaulting police officer

KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) - An escapee from the Laumaka Work Furlough Center put up a fight with police before being recaptured.

According to police, 45-year-old Carlton Santos left the center on June 25.

On Monday, police learned he was in the Lanakila area and moved in to arrest him.

Upon arrival, Santos fled into a residence on Ahiahi Place occupied by a 47-year-old man. Santos then held the man against his will.

Police say Santos then attempted to flee and assaulted an officer in the process.

The officer was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Santos is in police custody and is facing several charges including kidnapping and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Santos is reportedly scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
