CAPTAIN COOK (HawaiiNewsNow) - After searching for six days, the Hawaii County Fire Department has ended their efforts to find a New York teenager who was swept out to sea.

Tyler Madoff, 15, went missing when a wave swept him into the ocean while he was on a hike with tour company, Bold Earth Adventures.

Good water conditions on Monday allowed divers to enter underwater caves for the first time in the search.

Crews covered the shoreline while helicopters conducted an aerial search. They also covered the area north of the Captain Cook monument.

Hawaii state officials say Bold Earth Adventures did not have a permit to be in the tide pool area where the incident occurred.

The waves washed away two teens including Madoff. The other teen, of Miami, was rescued and is recovering in at the Queen's Medical Center.
