KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police shut down a portion of Mokauea Street Sunday night after a distraught man barricaded himself inside a Kalihi residence.
According to police, the incident happened at about 8 p.m. Police say the man was armed with at least one knife, but did not have any hostages with him inside the building.
Upon arrival, patrol officers called in members of the Specialized Services Division and the Crisis Negotiation team.
The 31-year-old man was taken into police custody and transported to the Queen's Medical Center in serious, but stable condition for psychological evaluation.
Police reopened Mokauea Street between Kaumualii and Eluwene Streets at about midnight.
