HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii on Friday announced it's preparing to sell its West Oahu hospital and is holding a garage sale at the Ewa campus on Saturday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"We're at an exciting point as we move forward in carrying on the tradition of compassion and caring established by Saint Marianne Cope in the Islands 130 years ago," said Jerry Correa, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Francis Healthcare System.  "Preparing the West Oahu hospital for sale is one of our top priorities in the next few months."

St. Francis is looking for volunteers to help stage excess hospital equipment on Saturday, July 14, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and to help on the day of the garage sale.

On Saturday, June 30, more than 50 Hawaiian Electric Company employees and their families volunteered to help with inventory and to stage items, including office chairs, tables, desks, file cabinets, bookshelves, computer tables, microwave ovens, large and small refrigerators, and more for the upcoming garage sale.

However, more volunteers are needed to prepare for the July garage sale as well as to begin preparing for an auction at St. Francis Healthcare System's Liliha campus that will be held in September 2012.

If you or your group would like to do a community service project and help with preparing the hospital to eventually reopen, contact Patty Martin, Director of Volunteer Programs for St. Francis Healthcare System, at (808) 547-8134 or pmartin@stfrancishawaii.org.
