SURF'S UP ON SOUTH SHORES
A swell continues to bring big waves to the South Shore. A high surf advisory is up through noon. Dan forecasts surf heights around 5 to 8 feet this morning, dropping to 4 to 6 feet by this afternoon. Boaters should know there's a small craft advisory for rough seas through tomorrow night. DANIEL ON PACE TO REACH HURRICANE STRENGTH TODAY
Tropical Storm Daniel could be a full blown hurricane by later today. It's currently moving West off the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California. We talked with the National Hurricane Center this morning to get the latest. including timeline and possible impact on Hawaii. According to the Hurricane Center Daniel is "going to be a Hurricane later today and tonight and probably maintain hurricane strength on Saturday." As for any effects on Hawaii, the word from the National Hurricane Center Spokesman Dennis Fentgen, "It's far too early to tell what if any the remnants of Daniel would have on the Hawaiian Islands." SEARCH FOR TEEN SWEPT TO SEA
The Fire Department will continue scouring the waters off Kealakekua Bay for a 15 year old New York hiker who was knocked out of tide pools by a wave and swept to sea. Tyler Madoff was in Hawaii on an adventure tour and trying to cool down in the tide pools when it happened. The Coast Guard has suspended its search for Madoff.
NEW UNEMPLOYMENTS NUMBERS
The national unemployment numbers are just out for June. The good news? Hawaii fares better than the rest of the Mainland, but the bad? The national numbers are stagnant and if this continues, it could have an impact on Hawaii.
