HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For 11 years running, The Locations Foundation's "Backpack to School" event has provided thousands of brand-new backpacks brimming with school supplies for Hawaii keiki in need. Starting July 1 through July 13, The Locations Foundation will again utilize Prudential Locations office and retail locations across Oahu to serve as drop-off venues supplies, as well as any Prudential Locations open house on Sunday July 1 and July 8.
"The Locations Foundation was one of the first organizations to host a backpack drive and we continue our mission today to arm every kid on Oahu with the basic tools they need to succeed in school," said James Chan, chair of Backpack to School and Partner at Prudential Locations. "I challenge the community-at-large to participate in this rewarding event by donating school supplies for this year's drive and help the next generation of Hawaii residents." Shelters on Oahu that will receive the backpacks include: Women in Need, Vancouver House, Loilani Hale, HIS, Family Promise, Weinburg Village and Legal Aid Society of Hawaii. In order to meet its goal of at least 500 backpacks, The Locations Foundation invites the public to donate school supplies, including:
?X Elmer's glue sticks and four-ounce bottles
?X Number two pencils, black pens, red pencils, fine-point black markers
?X Composition books, folder paper, binders, white erasers, rulers and 24-packs of Crayola Crayons
"A brand-new backpack filled with things like pens and paper seems like a small gesture, but in reality, it can make a tremendous difference in helping these kids get on a path to a brighter future," said Mary Scott Lau, executive director of Women in Need. The community is invited to drop-off school supplies from July 1 to 13, 2012 at the following Prudential Locations offices/retail carts:
Diamond Head: 614 Kapahulu Avenue, Suite 300
Kailua: 151 Hekili Street 120
Mililani: 95-720 Lanikuhana Avenue, Suite 120
Pearlridge: 98-161 Kaonohi Street
Pearlridge Center: Kiosk at Uptown
Windward Mall: Kiosk at Center Court
Oahu residents are also encouraged to stop by any Prudential Locations open house on Sunday, July 1 and Sunday, July 8 to drop-off school supplies. Check local newspaper listings and keep an eye out for Prudential Locations' signs to find open houses in a neighborhood near you.
The Locations Foundation is funded solely by donations from Prudential Locations' real estate agents and staff, many of whom give a percentage of their annual income to the Foundation, alongside many hours of volunteer time. Celebrating more than 20-years of giving back to Hawaii's community, The Locations Foundation gave more than $100,000 to local charitable causes last year alone.
