HFD searching for 4 stranded hikers in mountains above Aiea

AIEA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Fire Department crews are assisting four hikers who are stranded in the mountains above Aiea.

According to officials, an adult male in his 50s and three teenage boys started their hike at Aiea Loop Trail on Monday morning. The group then took a different trail up to the ridge and planned to arrive in Laie on Friday.

Rescue crews have cell phone contact with the group and are trying to send a helicopter up to locate them.

The hikers told rescue crews that clouds are low-hanging and they cannot see any landmarks.

Officials say the hikers have supplies and were prepared to be in the mountains for several days.

No injuries have been reported.
