Maui police target drivers with "Project Red Light"

WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Maui Police Department Monday launched "Project Red Light" an initiative targeting drivers who run red lights.

"We've all at one time or another have either witnessed or heard from someone who witnesses drivers running the red light at an intersection almost causing an accident," said Maui County police Lt. Wayne K. Ibarra.

For the next several weeks the Maui Police Department will be out "in force" to help "enforce" red light violations.

"Officers from every district island wide will be out monitoring various intersections and citing drivers who run the red light both during the day and during the night," said Ibarra.

The fine for disregarding a red signal is $97.
