CAR HITS POLE
A car crashed into a pole overnight at the corner of Queen and Cooke Streets. It happened just after 2 this morning and our crew witnessed someone being placed in handcuffs. More details ahead on Sunrise.
Today, the Rimpac War Games begin with a welcome by the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. 25-thousand personnel from more than 20 countries will be taking part in the world's largest international maritime training exercise. Rimpac runs for a month, through August 3rd.
AMELIA EARHART MYSTERY
A UH Research ship will try to help solve the mystery of what happened to famed aviator Amelia Earhart. The Kaimikai o Kanaloa will head out to a coral atoll in Kiribati, where there have been clues she crashed and lived on an island. Today marks the 75th anniversary of Earhart's disappearance. The Discovery Channel plans to air a special on the 26-day voyage sometime in August.
GOING FOR GOLD
Congratulations to Hawaii born Kyla Ross. The 15 year old gymnast earned a spot to compete on Team USA at the London Olympics. Ross is looking forward to going for gold. She says, "Now, we just gotta go back and work hard and hopefully go to London as best prepared as we can." The gymnastics portion of the Olympics begins on July 28th.
INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS

NO KAILUA FIREWORKS SHOW
A reminder if you were hoping to watch fireworks in Kailua, there will NOT be a show this year. Organizers say there was not enough money to plan one. In years past, the community has rallied at the last minute to raise the cash. This year, it's too late so it will be no go for a Kailua fireworks bash.
