Fire caused major damage to a Hawaii Kai studio on Kaumakani Street overnight. Investigators say it appears to have started in a mattress. Damage is estimated at 75-thousand dollars.
RIMPAC KICK OFF
Military ships from two dozen countries are making their way to Hawaii for the Rimpac War Games at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The exercise begins today and runs through August 3rd. 25 thousand personnel are expected, giving a big boost to our economy. If you live near the base, expect to hear an increase in noise during the exercise.
PRESIDENT TO SEE COLORADO WILDFIRE DEVASTATION
President Obama will tour the devastation from massive wildfires in Colorado Springs today. It has been declared the worst in the state's history. 346 homes have been destroyed and the number could actually be much higher. It's difficult to tally the damage through the flames and smoke. We'll have a live report from Colorado coming up on Sunrise.
CONTROLLED BURN AT SCHOFIELD
Don't be alarmed by smoke at Schofield's live fire range today. Crews will conduct a prescribed burn of 800 acres of fire-prone vegetation to reduce the fire danger.
SUPREME COURT HEALTH CARE RULING IMPACT
One day after the Supreme Court upheld the individual health mandate requiring insurance coverage, we're getting more reaction from Hawaii's health care community. This morning at 7:10, Howard will talk about the impact with Dr. Ginny Pressler, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer for Hawaii Pacific Health.
