Truck dumps beer kegs on highway, triggers crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 60-year-old woman was sent to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition following a rush hour crash on Nimitz highway Thursday morning.

Police say the woman was driving a car that collided with a Toyota 4-Runner that flipped over around 7:45 a.m.

The SUV's driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

The incident occurred after a beverage delivery truck lost part of its load when the driver turned left onto Nimitz Highway near Lagoon drive. Police say the Toyota 4-Runner flipped over while trying to avoid several fallen beer kegs. The car then collided with the SUV.

Police shut down several Ewa bound lanes until they could tow away the vehicles involved in the crash.

They also shut down the town bound lanes where the beer fell off the truck.

Crews from Paradise beverage removed the fallen kegs and police were able to reopen those lanes around 9 a.m.
