2 men rescued after boat capsized

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Fire Department crews rescued two men in waters off Sand Island Access Road early Tuesday morning after their boat capsized.

According to officials, the incident was reported just before 1 a.m.

One of the men swam to shore to alert authorities, while the other man remained in the water. Both men were wearing life vests.

It appears the two men had just purchased the boat and were taking it out for a test drive.

No injuries were reported.

    Nearly a year after a landslide in Kipahulu, repairs are getting underway to fix parts of Piilani Highway at the Nuanualoa Gulch. The repairs are part of a 7-month-long, nearly $2 million project. Daily road closures will begin February 5th as Hawaiian Dredging Construction crews bring in equipment to build a retaining wall, put up guard rails and complete other safety measures.
