Texas woman drowns on Big Island

Big Island police are investigating a possible drowning in waters along the Kohala coast on Sunday morning.

Police say 71-year-old Sokoon Yu of Flour Mound, Texas was snorkeling with a tour group near the 74-5000 block of Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona when she became unresponsive.

Workers from the tour group pulled her from the water and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Fire Department personnel continued CPR and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m.

The case has been classified as a coroner's inquest and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
