Honolulu police are investigating a child endangerment case after a missing toddler was found alone in a car in Waialua Monday morning.

Paramedics treated two-year-old Kaitlyn Kiyota for dehydration and took her to Wahiawa general hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police found her in her mother's parked car on a rugged road inside the Waialua side of Kaena Point State Park.

A police helicopter spotted the vehicle and the child inside just before 7 a.m.

The car's battery was dead and her mother's purse and keys were still inside.

Police learned of the toddler's disappearance after responding to complaints last night about the child's mother.

Callers told police she was on the side of the road near Dillingham Airfield banging on cars and talking to herself. She told them that she had a child with her earlier and couldn't find her car. She was taken to Queen's Medical Center for observation.

Two-year-old Kaitlyn was placed into protective care for now. Police have been in contact with her father who shares custody.
