Crews monitoring Pahala wildfires

PAHALA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Fire Department crews are slowly gaining the upper hand on two wildfires that have burned more than 5,200 acres.

Officials say the 400-acre fire located on the mauka side of Pahala is 95 percent contained and is under control. The larger blaze, located in the makai area, is about 60 percent contained.

Firefighters will continue to monitor and extinguish any hot spots.
