Compliments to the State Transportation Department. They took a step back from their original position on the Haleiwa farmers market.
They extended their reprieve a couple more weeks, buying more time to find a new site and Governor Abercrombie's office identified three possible sites, two of them in Haleiwa.
The Governor always said he was in favor of more local food production and his actions back that up.

Some farmers are upset at a house bill that was supposed to set goals for more food self-sufficiency.
It showed up in conference committee with all kinds of new language, watering it down. Some of the new provisions said more about biofuels and building homes on farm land than what the bill was supposed to be about.
I'm not sure we can legislate food self-sufficiency in any case. But it makes strategic, economic and nutritional sense to grow more food here.
