Dog to undergo first in-clinic stem cell therapy on Oahu

HAWAII KAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A veterinary hospital in Hawaii Kai is making history.

A 13-year-old Rottweiler-Labrador mix, also known as Kumba, suffers from severe arthritis that limits his mobility.

On Thursday, he will undergo the first in-clinic stem cell therapy in Honolulu.

The drug-free treatment uses an adult animal's own stem cells to heal itself.

Within two months of the procedure, Kumba should be moving with little to no pain.

The procedure will take place at Surf Paws Animal Hospital.
