Woman arrested after allegedly stealing $20,000 from elderly man

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman is in police custody accused of stealing $20,000 from an elderly Pauoa man.  Police say 34-year old Katy Sterio befriended 73-year old Stanley Ho, and tricked him into giving her the money for fake medical bills.  

Hawaii News Now has learned that authorities were alerted when Ho withdrew large amounts of money.  Sterio is charged with two counts of first-degree theft. Her bail is set at $150,000.

    Nearly a year after a landslide in Kipahulu, repairs are getting underway to fix parts of Piilani Highway at the Nuanualoa Gulch. The repairs are part of a 7-month-long, nearly $2 million project. Daily road closures will begin February 5th as Hawaiian Dredging Construction crews bring in equipment to build a retaining wall, put up guard rails and complete other safety measures.
