Hawaii fuel prices continue to drop

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Gas prices declined throughout the islands last week and the statewide average for regular went down a nickel to $4.45, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The price is nine cents less than a month ago and 54 cents more than a year ago.

Honolulu's average price dropped to $4.29 a gallon for regular unleaded which is five cents less than a week ago. Thursday's price is 11 cents less than a month ago and 39 cents higher than this time last year.

In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.57 a gallon, six cents less than last week, 18 cents less than last month and 62 cents higher than this time last year.

Wailuku's average is $4.86 a gallon, a penny less than last week, four cents less than last month and 46 cents higher than last year.

"Sports equipment, work files and other heavy items in your trunk aren't always necessary to carry around and will reduce your fuel economy by about 2 percent per extra 100 pounds," said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson.  "Remove them and save gasoline."
