Queen's hospital on Oahu using video interpreters

HONOLULU (AP) - Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu has become the first hospital in the state to use live video interpreters to help doctors and staff communicate with patients who speak other languages.

Hospital officials say the facility is using the Language Access Network, which offers interpreters in more than 200 languages.

The system uses specialized equipment to make sure communications aren't transmitted through the Internet.

Hospital officials say they hope the system will help it provide better care and use resources more effectively.
