Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) - David Fink kept his hopes of winning his third straight Manoa Cup match play title alive by fending off Dennis Harrison 3 and 1 in the opening round of the 104th Manoa Cup Tuesday.
Fink held a 2 Up lead on Harrison through 10-holes, but Harrison clawed back with a birdie on 12 to square the match.
It was the last birdie Harrison made the rest of the way.
Fink carded birds on 14, 16, and closed out 17 with a rocket tee shot, using a 3-wood, that landed 20-feet from the flag.
Fink two-putted for birdie and the 3 & 1 win.
"It was back and forth the whole way, said Fink. "I mean, i'd get up one or two and then he'd get up one or two, it was just kind of that fighting mentality that both of us had today. My caps off to him, he played really well and fought to the end. And that's what it's about, grinding is the name of the game in the Manoa cup."
Fink moves on round two Wednesday morning where he'll face Alina Ching at 7am.
