Brandon League helps Mariners complete no-hitter

SEATTLE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Starting pitcher Kevin Millwood and five relievers combined for a 1-0, no-hit gem Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Millwood cruised through six innings of work, but injured his groin in the 7th inning, opening the gate way for Seattle's bullpen.

In the mix of Mariners relievers was St. Louis graduate Brandon League who became the first pitcher native to Hawaii, to take part in a no-hitter.

In the top of the 8th inning, League got A.J. Ellis to bloop an out to left fielder Chone Figgins who made a running catch. His strong throw home kept pinch-runner Alex Castellanos at third base.

League then struck out Tony Gwynn Jr. to end the inning.

In the 9th inning, Andre Ethier hit a routine grounder off closer Tom Wilhelmson to end the game and preserve the 3rd no-hitter in Seattle's franchise history.
