Honolulu Fire Department crews are in Waianae for the sixth straight day following several separate fires in the area.

The latest fire started Thursday afternoon near Piliuka Place in Waianae Valley. Late Friday afternoon HFD declared the 1,000-acre fire contained.

According to officials, the fire was burning in an area where ground crews had a tough time reaching.

Investigators are not sure what sparked the fire, but they do know the fire is not a flare up from earlier this week.

Some families evacuated on their own on Thursday, however, HFD Fire Capt. Terry Seelig says no homes are currently in danger.

Fire crews are keeping an eye on the blaze to make sure it does not move near homes in the area.

According to officials, the American Red Cross has closed the emergency shelter it opened Thursday at Waianae District Park.
