Real Estate of Mind - For Whom Should You Buy?

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's never a bad idea to buy a home that fits you perfectly now. But there are reasons you should be thinking "down the road" as well. On today's Real Estate of Mind, Coldwell Banker Realtor Associate Tanya Diane Hawkins joined us to explain. Check out the video and her notes below.

Future marketability:  If you might sell within a few years, it's possible that Baby Boomers could be a big part of your potential buyer pool.  With a global Boomer population of nearly 80 million, now age 48 to 67, having a home with features that appeal to them could make your home more marketable in the future.

Extended family:  It is very possible that your parents or children may become part of your household at times you didn't expect.  Being prepared for an extended stay will help make this a more positive experience for everyone.

Desirable features:  Considering these points, there are some features to consider:

  • Living quarters that are easy to access, especially a bedroom on the main floor.
  • ADA accessible bathrooms and kitchens
  • An elevator, or space to add an elevator or lift later if needed
  • An ohana or caretaker's unit.
  • Recreational facilities nearby or on site
