PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) - A former American Samoa teacher must serve 28 months in prison for having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student he impregnated.
Tone Pulou was sentenced Wednesday by the High Court of American Samoa. He pleaded guilty last month to rape under a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Associate Justice Lyle Richmond says Pulou can apply for work release at any time during his jail term. Once he's employed, Pulou must pay $100 month in child support.
He's been ordered not to have contact with the girl and her family. He must also register as a sex offender, take an HIV test and reimburse the territorial government $5,600 for the cost of his extradition. He was arrested in Honolulu in October after being wanted by authorities since August 2010.
