Kyle McKeown
Grace Lee-Nakamoto
WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A judge Tuesday agreed to release a Maui couple accused of beating a four-year-old to death. The decision came during a hearing for 32-year-old Kyle McKeown and 27-year-old Grace Lee-Nakamoto.
The two are charged with second-degree murder in the death of Zion McKeown who is Kyle's four-year-old son.
Maui police say the boy died last week after suffering extreme abuse at the couple's Wailuku home. In court today lawyers for both sides agreed the two should be released because the investigation is ongoing.
The judge agreed but ordered the couple to stay away from children and each other.
Preliminary hearings for McKeown and Nakamoto were set for 3:30 p.m. on July 2 in Family Court.
