Hannemann files papers for U.S. House

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is officially running to succeed Mazie Hirono in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Hannemann filed papers in Pearl City with family and friends by his side.

"We're anxious to criss-cross all over the state; basically convey to the people that I hope to represent what I would like to do in Washington D.C. and most importantly what they expect of the U.S. congressional representative.  We're ready to rock and roll," said Hannemann.

Hannemann faces democrats, Rafael Del Castillo, Tulsi Gabbard, Esther Kiaaina, Bob Marx and Miles Shiratori in the August primary.

U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono is running to succeed Daniel Akaka in the U.S. Senate.
