Mayor Carlisle files for re-election

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle filed for re-election Monday with union supporters behind him. He says he's been taking care of finances during his term by saving money and spending it wisely.

He stressed the use of technology in Honolulu from the improved bus system, to new "smart" parking meters downtown.

Carlisle says going green is the most important thing right now, including the rail and urban renewal.

He joked that he gets a lot of complaints as mayor, but complaints just mean you do something about them.

Carlisle also received endorsements today from the Hawaii Carpenters Union, the Hawaii Masons Union and the Hawaii Sheet Metal Workers Union.

Carlisle's opponents former acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell and former Governor Ben Cayetano filed their paperwork last month.
