HONOLULU – The Rainbow Warrior Basketball Camp began Monday,
with Gib Arnold running the show. Listening
attentively were over 100 little hoopsters ranging in age from six to 17.
Arnold was clearly at ease with his charges. "I love camp.
I've gone to a million of them, done a million of them, so this is a
time that's a lot of fun for me" said the UH head Coach.
The camps offer children a chance to receive instruction
from college coaches, and for the coaches to potentially spot some upcoming
local talent.
"Every camp has a couple of these kids that we definitely
watch. There were a couple from last
year that I made sure to watch on their AAU teams."
Gib's summer of hoops isn't relegated to instructing
camps. Besides the upcoming recruiting
period in July, Arnold will get a chance to work with his own players as well.
"The NCAA has changed the rules, so for the first time I
actually get to work kids out this summer, which is great, never been able to
do that. We're going to---not have
practice, but individual workouts."
