Funeral services held for Hawaii man killed in Los Angeles

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundreds gathered in downtown Honolulu Sunday to remember a former Hawaii man killed in Los Angeles.

Friends and family attended memorial services at Borthwick Mortuary for Bobby Khamvongsa.  Last month, the 27-year old was stabbed to death in a street in West Hollywood.

Police have charged the Kaimuki High School graduate's classmate, Richard Herrera, with murder.  Khamvongsa's family members are still trying to cope with the loss.

"Me and him were the only gay ones in our family, so I looked up to him.  If it wasn't for him, then I wouldn't be who I am now.  He was always there for us, he was the only one that I could talk to and show my feelings to, cause he understands us", said Khamvongsa's cousin Kerian Chandara.

A separate tribute was held for Khamvongsa by his friends in Los Angeles earlier this month.
