KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - There are new details on the severe wind that toppled a roof Thursday in south Maui.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing what looked like a funnel or tornado blow over a huge metal roof in Kihei.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu says it wasn't a tornado. Instead they say a dust devil is the likely culprit.

Dust devils are usually harmless, but can on rare occasions grow large enough to pose a threat to both people and property.
