Traffic Cameras Out, Wildfire Concerns, Defense Secretary Here

TRAFFIC CAMERAS OUT

The City & County of Honolulu's Traffic Cameras have gone dark. They're offline today for "routine maintenance," but we have an insider at the Traffic Management Center to bring us the most up to the minute updates. Tune into Sunrise for updates from Danielle Tucker.

KALANIANAOLE LANDSLIDE CLEARED

Traffic near the Lanai Lookout between Makapuu and Sandy's Beach had to be contraflowed due to a landslide. The alert came in at 4:15 and we're happy to report it has just been cleared.

KAILUA FIRE CONCERNS

There have been two wildfires in one week in Kailua and the latest posed a threat to endangered species. Kawainui Marsh is home to the Hawaiian Stilt and the Hawaiian Moorehen. Luckily, this fire was put out quickly or the consequences could have been severe. No word yet if it was intentionally set like the 400-acre fire Wednesday in the hills above Kalaheo High School.

KAUAI FIRE CHALLENGES

Firefighters on Kauai are having a tough time putting out a wildfire that started Monday on Milolii Ridge in Na Pali Kona forest reserve because of the steep terrain.

SECRETARY OF DEFENSE IN HAWAII

happening today, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta will meet with troops at Camp Smith and take part in an award ceremony. He's on a nine day trip to discuss America's new military focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

PRO BOWL REACTION

Football fans and the players are thrilled that the Pro Bowl will be back in Hawaii for 2013 and Hawaii tourism officials are cheering the move. Howard has their reaction on Sunrise.
