WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - By: Erin Marx
Fanny's Chinese Food in Waikiki will close its doors Thursday after serving local customers since 1975. Their property and the building behind it have been sold, so the long-time business owners are planning to retire early.
"Very sad but what can you do. There's other journey to do other things," says Judy Fong co-owner of Fanny's.
Fanny's serves plate lunch style Chinese food to locals who have been loyal customers for years and even tourists who keep coming back. It's a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a warm feeling of Ohana. She says she will miss all of her customers who have become like family.
"Everybody call you aunty or mama," Judy explains as her eyes begin to tear.
Fanny's supplies more than 200 meals for Outrigger employees each day. They have no plans of opening another restaurant, but will take the time off to relax in early retirement.
